According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle United have identified FOUR Premier League players they could look to sign in January.
They are Burnley’s James Tarkowski, Man Utd outcast Jesse Lingard, Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko and Divock Origi – who is said to be seen as a potential loan option.
Interestingly, the same piece states that our new owners are ‘confident’ they’ll bring Tarkowski to Tyneside, with him in danger of leaving Burnley for nothing next summer as things stand.
The report also states that Howe is aware that any new arrivals must make an immediate impact in our bid to beat the drop, yet with several of the ‘other 19’ reluctant to do business with the Saudi-backed consortium, it seems we’ll target player who are either entering the last six months of their current deals (Tarkowski and Lingard) or those struggling for game time at ‘big six’ sides (Zinchenko and Origi).
Lingard is described as a ‘leading target’ and could leave for a cut-price fee in January after refusing to sign a new deal at Old Trafford, however it seems Spurs and West Ham may also be in the for the England international.
Origi would be a smart signing, being a tall but mobile forward who could work well alongside Callum Wilson – a player we rely on far too much in attack.
As for Zinchenko, he’s struggled for minutes, being behind Cancelo and Walker in the pecking order at Man City, yet his versatility and reliability whenever called upon could make him someone Pep Guardiola has zero interest in letting go.
We could send Steve Bruce to that little club in the north west if they could maybe loan us j.lingard
