Eddie Howe wants to make former Spurs star his first signing at Newcastle – The Mirror

The Mirror have released an ‘exclusive’ which claims that Eddie Howe is hoping to make Kieran Trippier his first signing at Newcastle United.

The report – written by chief football writer John Cross – states that the England international is keen on a move back to the Premier League after swapping Spurs for Spain two years ago.

As a result, it’s said that the Saudi-backed consortium believe they can convince the Atletico Madrid defender to join in January as we look to beat the drop following an awful start to the season.

The Mirror reveal that Howe is keen to bring ‘leaders’ and ‘big personalities’ into the dressing room this winter, and Trippier is considered to be exactly that after being handed the captains armband by Gareth Southgate on occasions.

He is now 31, making him a potentially expensive short term option, however he would be a massive upgrade on our current options at full-back, bringing experience and quality on the ball.

Trippier has worked with Howe before, with him signing for Burnley – following an impressive loan spell – during the NUFC boss’ time at Turf Moor.

This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with a move for the former Tottenham star since Howe arrived, making you wonder if there’s some truth behind this latest transfer rumour?

He’d be a great signing, but whether we can pull it off in our current predicament is another matter entirely!
