Saudi consortium linked with shock move for ex-NUFC star who could look to leave in January

An unsettled Gini Wijnaldum is receiving interest from Newcastle United, according to a new report.

TEAMtalk’s latest ‘exclusive’ claims that the former Toon midfielder has not settled in Paris following his free transfer move from Liverpool last summer, and could be tempted by a return to the Premier League in January.

The Dutchman has only played 90 minutes three times since his move to PSG but would be the sort of top class midfielder we’ve lacked since he left Newcastle, where he scored 11 goals in his one and only season at St James’ Park.

Wijnaldum has spoken recently about his time in the North East with fondness, saying how we gave him a platform in the Premier League which ultimately helped him gain his big-money move to Liverpool in 2016.

The 31-year-old could even be available this winter, with our new owners desperate for quality additions – preferably with Premier League experience – as we bid to avoid the drop after a dismal start to the season.

This is one to take with a huge pinch of salt given he’d have to swap Champions League football for a relegation battle, however stranger things have happened…
