Alan Shearer’s brutal message to Eddie Howe after Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle  

Alan Shearer thinks Eddie Howe was handed a reality check by Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday, feeling he’ll now realise what a huge job he has on his hands to keep this side in the Premier League.

A lacklustre Toon side fell apart in the second half after some encouraging signs in the first, with defensive errors again causing us to lose the game.

There has been no “new manager bounce” on Tyneside so far from a points perspective, as we remain at the foot of the Premier League table and without a win in our opening 13 games of the season.

Our record goalscorer thinks if Howe didn’t know the scale of the job at hand before Saturday’s defeat, he certainly will now, with us failing to lay a glove on a bang average Arsenal side.

Shearer said it is going to take “a mammoth effort” to keep our current squad in the division.
