Andy Carroll bagged a superb first goal for Reading that was reminiscent of his younger days at Newcastle.
Our former striker picked up the ball just outside the area via a brilliant first touch, darted towards goal and slotted a cool left-footed finish beyond the hapless Ben Hamer to put his new club 2-1 up in a game they went on to win 3-2.
Better still, his celebration was comical afterwards too, as he impersonated being on a rowing machine with his fellow teammates.
Watch the goal and amusing celebration below:
Carroll’s strike was surprisingly his first away goal since 2017, a sign of just how poor he was on his Tyneside return – where he bagged just once in two years.
The Athletic reported yesterday that the Royals are only paying Carroll a measly £1k-a-week on a contract until January, saying he accepted a huge pay-cut in a bid to get back playing again.
In true Carroll fashion, however, he also went off injured in the game and was replaced by Femi Azeez.
A sublime goal, a silly celebration and a potentially lengthy injury… Carroll’s career summed up in a nutshell!
