Newcastle now eyeing double swoop for Lille duo after Eddie Howe’s approval?

According to reports, Newcastle are showing interest in Lille duo Sven Botman and Renato Sanches.

Starting with Botman, The Athletic’s David Ornstein claims that we have identified the Dutch international as a ‘primary target’ ahead of the January transfer window.

It’s reported that Lille could be open to a sale, with them currently in the midst of financial troubles, however it’s said they’d demand a fee in the region of around £40m for the 6ft 4′ centre-back.

The same piece states that head of recruitment Steve Nickson is the driving force behind our pursuit of Botman, yet it’s said Eddie Howe would ‘approve’ of a move for the 21-year-old.

Elsewhere, journalist Jacque Talbot claims we are one of several clubs looking to sign highly-rated midfielder Renato Sanches – a teammate of Botman’s at Lille.

The Portuguese international has been in and out of their side this season and sees his contract expire in 18 months time, meaning the club could cash in on the 24-year-old in January.

  1. Quality players but not sure it’s what we need in January.
We need PL experience to come in and hit the ground running if we are to stay up.
