Newcastle United break silence on Santiago Munoz & update arrives on Elliot Anderson injury

Newcastle United’s Elliot Dickman has revealed that forgotten signing Santiago Munoz is injured and set to be out until 2022 – explaining why he’s yet to feature for the second string so far this season.

The U23 boss has also issued a positive update on Elliot Anderson’s latest injury, picked up in last month’s abandoned clash with Aston Villa.

He’s explained that the injury isn’t as bad as first feared, saying he will be back “sooner rather than later” after sitting out our 2-0 win over Sunderland at Whitley Park last night.

As for Munoz, it seems the on loan Mexican is still recovering from injury and won’t feature until after Christmas – meaning the first half of his initial 18-month stint on Tyneside will have been spent on the sidelines.

Here’s what our new U23 coach has had to say on both…

Dickman on Santiago Munoz:

“Santi’s injured.

“He’s still doing part of his rehab.

“It’s going to be after Christmas I’d imagine before we see Santi in a match situation.

“The staff are working very hard with him to try and get him ready for when that comes.”

Dickman on Elliot Anderson:

“Obviously Elliot is in and around the first-team so he is up there getting his treatment,”

“But I don’t think it is as bad as first thought. So that is good news.

“In terms of how long he’s out, I don’t know.

I am just delighted that it’s not as bad and he will be back sooner rather than later.”
