Mammoth offer ‘revealed’ as NUFC step up bid to sign Man Utd’s Jesse Lingard in January

Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Ian McGarry has claimed that Newcastle’s new owners will offer Jesse Lingard a colossal contract offer to sign at St James’ Park.

The former chief football writer at The Mail states that we are prepared to pay the 28-year-old a whopping £200,000-per-week.

Interestingly, this comes just a few days after The Times‘ Martin Hardy reported that Lingard has been identified our top January target.

In that piece released over the weekend, Hardy also stated that we’d be willing to make him the highest paid player in the club’s history – and a weekly wage of £200,000 would make him exactly that!

Here’s what McGarry has had to say about the England international’s future, with him tipped to leave Man Utd in January now he’s entering the final six months of his deal at Old Trafford:

“So, interestingly you mentioned Jesse Lingard, Duncan.

“He has resisted Ed Woodward’s invitation to talk about a contract extension. You also mentioned Newcastle United.

“It is our understanding at the Transfer Window Podcast, that Lingard, who turns 29 next week, may well get a nice birthday present from Newcastle’s new owners.

“They are willing to compensate him leaving Man United and make it a hat-trick of United’s that he’s played for after his loan spell at West Ham, giving him £200,000 a week in order to make that switch,”

“They can kind of justify that on the basis that there’ll be a nominal fee, or if they wait until next summer, no fee whatsoever.”

This seems like silly money for a player who turns 29 next week. However, huge offers like this may be our one and only way of bringing quality players to the club this winter.

After all, it’s not our money and we have plenty of it now, so it would seem like a masterstroke if he came in, performed as he did at West Ham and ended up keeping us up!

  1. We’re in dire need of a CF who can deputize/play alongside with Callum Wilson, who’ll then be maximized with the ball controlling power of Jessie Lingard.
