Howe makes telling admission about his NUFC squad & sends vital message to Toon fans

Eddie Howe has admitted his team are in a “better place mentally” after securing our first win of the season and have trained brilliantly ahead of Sunday’s trip to Leicester.

The NUFC boss has also urged fans to keep generating the sort of atmosphere, both home and away, that we saw at St James’ Park last week, feeling the spirit built from these special moments can play a key role in our bid to stay up.

He’s also urged his players to build on the momentum gained from that 1-0 win over Burnley, insisting we will need to pull off victories against “all types of opponents” if we’re to survive after such a slow start.

Howe also touched on the extreme highs and lows of football, with him keen to find a “middle ground” for his players moving forward.

Here’s what he had to say on all of the above earlier today:

“The highs and lows that come with the job are very extreme.

“You want to find a middle ground.

“It was a really good time for us to share that moment with our supporters after waiting for that first win.

“It’s those kind of moments and that sort of atmosphere and spirit that we’re trying to generate together that can make the difference.

“So it was a really nice thing to do and hopefully something we don’t have to wait too long for again, because we are going to need wins.

“Our current league position is still very difficult and we are going to need wins against all types of opponents to reach our aim of staying up.

“We have that win we needed. Now we’ve got to try and create some momentum in our season.

“The supporters are going to be key to that, home and away.

“I can make the difference for the team.

“The team are in a better place mentally.

“Training this week has been really, really good, so we are looking forward to this tough game that we face.”
