Newcastle offered the chance to sign giant Premier League CB for £17m in January – Report

According to new reports, Newcastle have identified Yerry Mina as a potential January target as the club look to sign a new centre-back.

This comes from Jeunes Footeux, who claim that Everton will allow the giant Colombian to leave next month if we agree to pay their £17m asking price.

The report states that our Saudi-backed owners would have no problem paying this fee, but say remains to be seen if a move to Tyneside would appeal to Mina – who’s also received interest from AC Milan.

Rafa Benitez has handed the 6ft 5′ defender just five starts all season, although a series of injury issues have contributed to his lack of appearances under the Spaniard.

He is also entering the final 18 months of his contract at Goodison Park, meaning the Blues may look to move him on for a decent fee in January while they still can.

Mina is a powerhouse, more than capable on the ball for a player of his stature and someone who could add some presence to our timid back line, although his recent injury record is a concern.

It’s also hard to know if this is just another outlet putting two and two together than making five, with it common knowledge that we’re in the market for a centre-back and have money to spend heading into the new year.

  1. I would be all for taking someone who Benitez doesn’t think is good enough.

After all – he thought the following weren’t worth keeping ;-
Toney, Townsend, Cisse, Wijnaldum, Thauvin, De Jong, Mbabu, Janmaat, Krul, Tiote, Anita, Armstrong, Mitrovic, Merino, Rondon and Kenedy.

It’s not like he seems to know what he’s talking about. This is the guy who went to Real Madrid and said the players weren’t good enough.
