Confirmed NUFC team vs Leicester – Schar passed fit & Vardy benched by Covid-hit Foxes

Following our 1-0 win over Burnley last Saturday, Newcastle United take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium this afternoon.

The team news has arrived ahead of the 2pm kick off, seeing us line up as follows:

STARTING 11: Dubravka – Manquillo, Lascelles (c), Schar, Lewis – Shelvey, Willock – Joelinton, Almiron, Saint-Maximin – Wilson.

SUBS: Darlow, Ritchie, Hayden, Hendrick, Krafth, Fernandez, Fraser, Murphy, Gayle.

So, Eddie Howe has named an unchanged side, with Ryan Fraser returning to the squad after overcoming a hamstring issue that kept him out last weekend.

This really is a huge chance for us to take advantage of result elsewhere, with relegation rivals Watford, Norwich, Leeds and Southampton all suffering defeats over the weekend.

It could also be the perfect time to play Leicester, as they’ve not only won just one of their last six league games, but were playing in Napoli just a few nights ago as they crashed out of the Europa League.

They’ve also been hit by a host of Covid cases. Missing for the Foxes are Kelechi Iheanacho, Ademola Lookman, Jannik Vestergaard, Daniel Amartey, Filip Benkovic, Vontae Daley-Campbell, whileWesley Fofana (broken leg) and James Justin (knee) also miss out.

Here’s how Brendan Rodgers’ side line up, with one surprise seeing Jamie Vardy named on the bench…

Leicester XI: Schmeichel – Castagne, Evans, Soyuncu, Thomas – Dewsbury-Hall, Tielemans, Ndidi – Maddison, Barnes – Daka.

SUBS: Albrighton, Ward, Soumaré, Ricardo Pereira, Brunt, Nelson, Bertrand, Vardy, McAteer
