Journalist claims NUFC have been offered the chance to sign another Man Utd player
Speaking on The Transfer Window podcast, Duncan Castles has revealed that Newcastle's new owners have been advised to make a move for Manchester United's Anthony Martial.
This comes after Sky Sports reported just last week that the 26-year-old was looking to find a new club in January.
The Frenchman has started just two Premier League games all season. A recent knee injury has limited his game time, but even when fit he doesn't appear to be in the Ralf Rangnick first-team plans.
Martial is the second Man Utd player we've now been tipped to sign next month, with The Times reporting earlier this month that Jesse Lingard is one of the club's top January targets.
Here's what Castles - a journalist at the Sunday Times - had to say during his latest podcast appearance this week:
“I can tell you that there are certain people who have looked at the Newcastle United situation, and looked at Newcastle United’s need for experienced Premier League players and need for an additional goalscorer up front.
“[They] had suggested that Martial could be a good signing for them, because of his situation at United, because they have the financial wherewithal to pay his wages if necessary.
“We’re looking at it from the perspective of, is he persuadable? Can we offer him the best option for the rest of the season? Can we give him that platform to score goals again in the Premier League and get himself back in the French national team?”
Martial is an outstanding talent on his day, however there's been two issues hanging over him for some time now. One being his recent injury record and the other his questionable work rate, with many Man Utd fans wondering whether he's even been motivated to turn things around at Old Trafford.
Saying that, there's little doubt he could add quality to this NUFC attack, being a player who bagged 17 goals in the Premier League just a few seasons ago.
Would you take him in January if the opportunity arrived?
