Jamie Redknapp tells Saudi consortium to make this player their first January signing…

Jamie Redknapp has urged Newcastle United’s new owners to make Man Utd’s Jesse Lingard their first signing next month.

The forgotten England international has not started a single Premier League game for the Red Devils this season and finds himself way down the pecking order under Ralf Rangnick.

Lingard – whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season – benefitted from a loan move to West Ham at the start of the year, reminding everyone of his goalscoring qualities and forcing his way back into the England mix.

Sky Sports pundit Redknapp thinks Lingard is a signing that is “staring Newcastle in the face” and backed the 29-year-old to get the goals to keep us in the top flight.

Redknapp also thinks his arrival would ease the burden on Callum Wilson – who we have relied on heavily for the past 18 months.

This is what he said on Sky Sports ahead of the Man City game:

  1. Everybody knows Newcastle would welcome the addition of Jessie Lingard to their players’ list, but obviously the matter can truly be accomplished if the player himself do wish to join us. News had spread that the player seems to had his heart rested in Old Telford. Or is he wishing to have some more quids than the amount offered?
