Newcastle eyeing surprise January deal for Everton star after row with Rafa Benitez – Report

According to new reports, Newcastle United have emerged as surprise contenders to sign Lucas Digne in January.

This comes after the Frenchman’s fallout with current boss Rafa Benitez, seeing the Spaniard leave him out of Everton’s last three league games.

With him appearing to have no future under the former NUFC boss, the Toffees have wasted no time in finding his long-term replacement, with The Mirror reporting that they’ve struck a £17m deal to sign Ukrainian left back Vitaliy Mykolenko from Dynamo Kiev.

The same piece states that this has accelerated Digne’s chances of sealing a swift January exit, claiming that ourselves and Leicester are keen to land the 28-year-old.

With our defence all at sea and in desperate need of fresh blood, it could be a wise move to bring in a player of his quality. He’s a French international, has plenty experience and is proven at Premier League level.

The arrival of a few new centre-backs may be our top priority heading into the new year, however it would be a huge boost for Eddie Howe if the likes of Kieran Trippier and Lucas Digne could become our new first-team full-backs.
