Newcastle United are now considering a January move for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele, according to The Mail.
The former Celtic star could be sold by the cash-strapped Ligue 1 side if a ‘suitable offer’ arrives, however Simon Jones reports that we could look to strike a loan deal that includes an option to buy the 25-year-old should we stay up.
Dembele was at Atletico Madrid last season after the Spanish side agreed a £1.2m loan fee that included a view to buy for £30m, however any return was blocked by Lyon as the La Liga side asked for another loan deal over the summer.
Since returning to France, the striker bagged four goals in his opening five games for Lyon. He’s had injury issues since, but is now fit again and could be on the move in January, with Howe keen to sign another forward to ease our overreliance on Callum Wilson.
Elsewhere, The Mail state that deals for England right-back Kieran Trippier and Lille centre-back Sven Botman are being worked on, yet they do warn that the latter is an ambitious target who may not be attainable in our current predicament.
Lucas Digne is also named as a target being ‘discussed’ by the club after a recent fallout with Rafa Benitez, however it’s said the Everton left-back is waiting to see which other sides show interest ahead of the January window.
