NUFC leading race to sign Spurs defender ahead of Watford, Brighton & Leeds – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are leading the race to sign Tottenham centre-back Joe Rodon on loan.

The piece states that James Tarkowski is a ‘primary target’ for Eddie Howe, however it seems unlikely he will be allowed to leave Burnley next month – despite the fact he is out of contract next summer.

So, it seems Welsh international Rodon is an option we are now pursuing, with Mike McGrath writing that we are favourites for his signature ahead of Brighton, Watford and Leeds.

Spurs are said to be happy to let the 24-year-old leave on a short-term deal next month, with him on the lookout for regular first team football after only appearing in the Europa Conference league of late – a tournament the club are now out of.

The Telegraph also state the Kieran Trippier is one of Howe’s leading target. The Atletico Madrid full-back is out of contract at the end of the season and knows the NUFC boss well from their time together at Burnley.

  1. So the richest club in the world, who will have Messi selling the pies and yet relying on a player who can’t get into the Spurs team keeping them in the league. Couldn’t make it up. 🙄

  2. Very few “premiership type” top players will be available in January. Being the richest club in the world does not mean you can satisfy a players personal ambition in winning trophies etc. So yes we may have to lower expectations this time round-as long as what we get is better than what we have in our existing squad(in defence not too difficult!!)
