Newcastle launch £10m bid to sign Ligue 1 star, with transfer advisor also eyeing Toure – Report

According to Alan Nixon, Newcastle are launching a late bid to sign Marseille star Boubacar Kamara.

His latest piece for The Sun claims that we have lined up talks with his agents and hope to strike a deal with the player himself before attempting to agree a deal with Marseille.

The report claims we will submit a bid of £10m – a decent fee considering the 22-year-old is set to leave on a free agent at the end of the season.

Nixon also writes that, while Howe is keen to add proven Premier League players, he believes a move for Kamara would be ‘too good to miss’, especially when the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd had been waiting to sign him for nothing next summer.

The same piece also states that temporary transfer advisor Nick Hammond is also ‘pushing’ the club to make a January bid for Reims striker Bilal Toure.

The 20-year-old Mali international has been ‘earmarked as a potential star in the French top flight’ and is another name to watch our for; even if he could be signed as one for the future, not someone to get us out of trouble this season.

  1. “According to Alan Nixon, Newcastle are launching a late bid to sign Marseille star Boubacar Kamara.”

Believe me – there is no way that a bid from Newcastle in December could ever be considered a”a late bid”.

    Is this our new MO?
We don’t bid for the players we need, we only bid for players with 6 months left on their contracts?
Well – suppose it’s a step up from free agents!

  2. If this is the lad they’ve decided is the one they want to bolster a very weak midfield – £10m seems a low offer to me – regardless of whether he’s out of contract or not.

There’s suggested interest from other clubs too – so let’s put an offer on the table that would put them off, make Marsielle cash in & get the lad in nice and early and get him bed in.

  3. Don’t have a problem going after players in the last 6 months of their contracts-it is not negative at all. We are 2nd bottom of the league/ January is not the time to get top class players who are heavily involved in the Champions league etc. Under Ashley we couldn’t even go for loan signings! Whatever business we do will not only be based on the value of the player but if they can be persuaded to move now rather than see what our status will be next season.
