COVID set to catch up with Newcastle next week as cancellation fears grow?

Newcastle’s trip to Everton on December 30 could be postponed following an outbreak of Covid cases at Goodison Park.

The Toffees clash with Burnley on Boxing Day has already fallen victim to Covid, raising questions as to whether the game four days later will be called off too after Rafa Benitez’s side submitted even more positive tests just before Christmas.

We have been fortunate – or possibly even unfortunate – so far that no games have been postponed due to the rise in cases within the Premier League.

However, our good fortune could end up costing us in the long run as Man Utd, for example, will come to St James’ Park rejuvenated after having a two-week break due to Covid.

If Everton v Newcastle goes ahead on December 30, they too will have had added recovery time before the two teams meet in six days.

Whatever happens…Toon players have to simply play the hand they have been dealt with and do their job.

We need points on the board and, as it stands, Burnley will have FOUR games in hand on us by the end of the Boxing Day fixtures.

  1. No way will the Everton game be cancelled. The Premier League want us to fulfil all our fixtures in the hope that we lose them all and be dead and buried regarding many more games played than anyone else before the window comes to our rescue (hopefully).

  2. “……cancellation fears grow”

    No “fear” here.

We will need every bit of help we can get, and delaying a match until we have more capable players in may just make a difference.

  3. Definitely going down. Unless naive defending improve by 100%. This was no rocket science but unfortunately the championship manager still emphasizing on attacks with mediocre defending and hoping for the best. And the new rich owners football mentality and urgency were not at the level of other big clubs.
