Newcastle now facing competition from West Ham for two January targets – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, West Ham’s search for defensive reinforcements has seen them target TWO centre-backs on Eddie Howe’s radar at Newcastle United.

Matt Law reports that they are targeting Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly and Marseille’s Duje Caleta-Car, with David Moyes forced to dip into the market next month after injuries to Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna.

Howe brought Kelly to the South Coast back in 2019 and it’s recently been said that he’s eyeing a reunion with the highly-rated 23-year-old in January.

He is said to be a leading target for West Ham, although The Telegraph seem to think that Scott Parker’s Bournemouth will be hugely reluctant to sell midway through their push for automatic promotion.

Because of that, Croatian international Caleta-Car is named as another option for the Hammers, with the piece stating that Newcastle are also ‘interested’ in the 25-year-old.

The likes of James Tarkowski and Sven Botman have been heavily linked with January moves to St James’ Park, yet it’s hard to see how either happen.

Burnley seem highly unlikely to entertain bids from a relegation rival, while Botman is not only one of Europe’s most promising young centre-backs but also due to compete in the last 16 of the Champions League with Lille.

That aside, it might be hard to beat West Ham to the likes of Kelly or Caleta-Car when one is pushing for Europe and the other is currently embroiled in a relegation battle. Money talks, mind…

  1. I can’t see us having much competition.
It’s not a window teams plan to spend big in.
Agents are greedy. They can get in their client’s ear …
I expect we’ll have a number of options lined up already.

    Three points tonight first!!
