NUFC handed triple boost on Tuesday – Relegation rivals lose & duo suspended for Toon game

West Ham and Crystal Palace have both done us a huge favour today, beating Watford and Norwich this afternoon.

The Hammers went 1-0 down at Vicarage Road early on – meaning Watford were on course to move FIVE points clear of us at one stage – however West Ham went on to thrash the Hornets 4-1.

Norwich also suffered another crushing loss after last week’s 5-0 beating at the hands of Arsenal, losing 3-0 against a Palace side without key players Conor Gallagher and Wilfried Zaha.

Elsewhere, Southampton had Mohammed Salisu sent off in their 1-1 draw with Spurs, meaning their star centre-back will be suspended for our trip to St Mary’s on Sunday.

The Saints will also be without first choice full-back Kyle Walker-Peters this weekend, with him picking up his fifth yellow of the season today.

So, we may have only taken a point last night when we deserved to win and have been rocked by a worrying injury to Callum Wilson, but things well and truly went for us today.

While St James’ Park was rocking and our players putting in a huge shift for Howe, two of our relegation rivals have been beaten without a fight to keep us within a few points of safety.

Here’s how the table looks as of Tuesday night:
