Newcastle United are showing interest in signing Brazilian striker Gabriel Barbosa, according to The Mirror.
They report that we are exploring the possibility of bringing the Flamengo star to Tyneside after seeing a move for Benfica’s Darwin Nunez hit the buffers.
Nunez was believed to be one of our leading targets, however the Portuguese giants appear to have made their stance clear, insisting he won’t be leaving next month.
Back to Barbosa, or ‘Gabigol’ as he’s known in his homeland, The Mirror report that Flamengo are ‘open to a six-month loan’ in January, but only if it includes a clause that ensures we sign him permanently for £17m deal next summer should we stay up.
One concern is that the same piece states that the player himself is not sold on a move to St James’ Park at present, fearing we’ll be unable to attract many other top players due to our precarious league position. I say a ‘concern’ as we need all January signings to arrive with fire in their bellies and belief in this club.
Barbosa is a Brazilian international who has five goals in 17 appearances for his country, bagging an impressive 84 goals and 26 assists in 124 outings for Flamengo.
Here’s him in action, featuring all 32 of his goals in 2021:
Not sure as his goals are tap ins or penalties, and most of those are bottom right corner… Easy to read….go for better.
