Sky Sports ‘breaking news’ confirms NUFC have submitted formal bid to sign Kieran Trippier

According to Sky Sports News, Newcastle have now submitted a formal bid to sign Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.

The ‘breaking news’ update states that talks between the clubs are ongoing, with Eddie Howe keen to make the right-back his first January signing.

The new NUFC boss has worked with the 31-year-old before during the pair’s time together at Burnley and it’s reported that he’s keen to make the switch to St James’ Park this month.

Elsewhere, The Mail’s Craig Hope has added: ‘there is now expectation rather than hope this deal will be done sooner rather than later.’

Here’s a snippet from Sky Sports’ transfer centre:

Newcastle have submitted a formal bid to sign Atletico Madrid right back Kieran Trippier.

Talks between the clubs are ongoing over the potential deal for the England International.

Trippier won the title in Spain last season with Atletico and was named in the La Liga team of the year. He started for Gareth Southgate’s England in the final of Euro 2020, setting up Luke Shaw’s early goal.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has also worked with Trippier before whilst the pair were at Burnley.

This comes after The Athletic reported yesterday that Newcastle are ‘increasingly confident’ the former Spurs full-back will sign for the club in the coming days, with The Telegraph also describing the move as ‘imminent’ earlier this week.

  1. We want to see statements of intent by our new owners and Trippier would definitely be that!!.

He’s top 6 quality imo & his quality & mentality in our dressing room can only help us.

I think we have positions that need strengthening more urgently, but this will be a signing that should encourage other transfer targets to come in ??.
