According to an ‘exclusive’ released by The Mirror late last night, Newcastle United are now showing interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The report states that we have contacted the Gunners over a potential loan-to-buy deal that includes an option to sign the striker for £20m at the end of the season; providing we stay up.
Aubameyang was recently stripped of the captaincy by Mikel Arteta for an alleged breach of discipline, with him not featuring for the club since a 2-1 defeat at Everton back on December 6th.
Eddie Howe is believed to want another striker now Callum Wilson faces around six weeks on the sidelines with a calf injury, however there’s a few reasons why this move seems a little hard to believe.
Firstly, he has left for the African Cup of Nations with Gabon, meaning he could be missing for the next month; therefore offering no cover while Wilson is out.
Not only that, this is a player who has not had disciplinary issues, but appears to have been demanding silly money to remain at Arsenal over the years, making you wonder how his arrival could impact the dressing room.
Saying that, he’s Premier League proven, has the undoubted quality to improve us and is the sort of signing we could’ve only dreamed of a few months ago.
It doesn’t quite add up and I can’t see it happening, but I won’t be turning my nose up if he’s pictured outside SJP in a few weeks time!
A few weeks is too late
