Brazilian keen to join Joelinton at NUFC – Club offered loan with £17m option to buy – Report

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle have been handed the opportunity to sign long-term target Gabriel Barbosa this month.

The report states that the Flamengo striker “likes” the idea of a January move to Newcastle, stating he is keen to test himself in the Premier League and team up with fellow Brazilian Joelinton.

The Chronicle claim that head of recruitment Steve Nickson has been watching the 25-year-old extensively during scouting trips to South America, and it seems a deal will be easy to do if we follow up on our initial interest.

It’s said we’ve been offered the chance to sign him on loan for the remainder of the season, with that deal including an option to buy for £17m this summer.

Here’s a snippet from Lee Ryder’s latest piece on ‘Gabigol’, who has bagged 29 goals in 43 games for Flamengo this term:

Newcastle United will be pushing at an open door if they continue to follow up initial interest in Gabriel Barbosa.

The deal is a simple one for Newcastle if they want to take it up – a loan deal until the end of the season and the possibility of a £17million permanent deal in the summer.

Those close to the player have told ChronicleLive that Barbosa “likes” the idea of a move to Newcastle and he would love to team up with man of the moment Joelinton.

Yet the interest has been parked after a pre-Christmas enquiry and while there has been contact, United have been assessing how long Callum Wilson will be unavailable far.
