NUFC set for transfer breakthrough with new bid for Kieran Trippier ready to be accepted – Report

Newcastle are expected to agree a £25million deal with Atletico Madrid for Kieran Trippier.

Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor – not our former player! – has announced on Twitter in the last few moments that the two clubs are in advanced talks, stating that we will raise our initial offer to prise him away from the La Liga champions.

This comes after Atleti boss Diego Simeone suggested the player was keen to leave after he started in a 2-0 win over Rayo Vallecano last night; a game which saw him wave goodbye to fans after the full-time whistle.

News broke on New Year’s Day that we had bid for Trippier in an attempt to make early inroads in the January transfer window. Now, just a few days on, it seems we’re closing in on a £25million deal for the England international after upping our initial offer.

The window has been billed as the most important in our club’s history following the £300million Saudi-backed takeover and Toon fans know how crucial it is to get players in early as important fixtures are coming up.

Let’s hope Trippier’s arrival can have a domino effect that inspires other arrivals to follow suit and not be deterred by our poor league position.
