Saudi consortium prepared to meet asking price for Premier League defender – ESPN

Newcastle want to sign Lucas Digne and would be prepared to meet Everton’s £25million asking price, according to ESPN.

The French left-back is currently frozen out at Goodison Park following a bust-up with Rafa Benitez and the Toffees have already acted quickly to sign his £17m replacement Vitaliy Mykolenko.

Our leaky defence is an area Eddie Howe has clearly identified as a weakness, with right-back Kieran Trippier and towering centre-back Sven Botman also believed to be leading targets.

Digne would walk straight into a Toon side that has had to play Matt Ritchie at left-back for most of the season while Jamal Lewis is currently injured and has been inconsistent since his arrival.

ESPN’s senior reporter James Olley claims Chelsea are also interested in his signature but would prefer a loan deal; something that doesn’t suit Everton as Rafa Benitez looks to raise funds.

It’s believed that Inter Milan and Napoli have also shown interest in the 28-year-old, however it seems Newcastle, at this stage, are the only club willing to pay the £25million price tag.

He could be a great signing this month and another statement of intent, yet the player himself may have other ideas if he has offers from the likes of Chelsea, Inter and Napoli.

  1. Life has started coming to St. James after the Saudi owners has started to raise his muscle in to the market. That will give a big signal to other player who are stubborn to come at this moment. You cant keep millions at then you went to your in-laws to beg food for home. This is just the beginning of the New Year. We are coming .

  2. The phoney attempt by epl clubs to cause a boycott of Newcastle’s attempts to sign a decent side and bring a hell-of -a lot of value, to the League, is a self defeating attempt ploy.
To imagine they can set up a boycott is only self defeating and leaves NUFC the ability
to deal with continental sides, who may be more likely to do business, as they also need new money to rebuild, there’s also the entire continents of Africa and South and North America, to choose from, not to mention the former USSR and it’s satellites.
don’t worry folks the side will rebuild and will have to be taken serious.
And time will be obviously limited , so et your bis and sales pitch in ow as the Saudis have tats this is a big event and if you want to be a part of it , get your applications in now !
