Sky Sports: Newcastle told another January target is ‘not for sale’

According to Sky Sports, Toon target and in-form Blackburn striker Ben Brereton Diaz is not for sale as the Rovers focus on a promotion charge.

The Chilean international has been on fire for Tony Mowbray’s side so far this season, with his 20 goals in 25 Championship appearances seeing him receive interest from Leeds and Newcastle.

Diaz’s streak in front of goal has attracted a host of top-flight clubs, with ourselves in the mix alongside Brighton for his signature.

However, Sky Sports have now revealed that Blackburn’s controversial Venky owners will not sell their star asset while promotion to the Premier League is still a real possibility.

The Rovers are the second-tier’s form side and currently sit in the automatic promotion spots – just three points off leaders Bournemouth.

Diaz could be available in the summer as he has just six months left on his current deal, with Blackburn having the option of extending by an extra year.

This update comes after The Mirror reported over the weekend that we were preparing a £20m bid for the striker, with Howe keen to bring in another forward following a calf injury to Callum Wilson.

It also follows news that Lille are standing firm on top target Sven Botman, insisting the Dutchman is not for sale after rejecting our £30m bid for the highly rated centre-back.

  1. Blackburn were never even going to consider selling Brereton.

Reporting that he was on our radar was just lazy journalism from the papers
