As confirmed by widespread reports on Tuesday night, Newcastle United have now agreed a fee with Atletico Madrid to sign Kieran Trippier.
Sky Sports Keith Downie, The Mail’s Craig Hope and The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards have all revealed that the 31-year-old is now on his way to Tyneside to undergo his medical on Wednesday after we had a £12m bid (plus add-ons) accepted by the La Liga giants.
The Mail reckon he’ll become our highest earner on ‘around £100,000-per-week’, while The Telegraph state that he’ll receive a weekly wage of £130,000.
Either way, it seems the player is now Toon bound, with Sky Sports reporting that he’ll travel to Tyneside and undergo his medical to become the first signing of the Saudi regime.
Interestingly, North-East reporter Craig Hope seems to think add-ons will amount to around £3m, meaning we may have landed the England international for a deal worth £15m; a real bargain for a player of his quality and experience.
Here’s what he’s had to say, confirming that the right-back is expected on Tyneside tomorrow for his medical:
Trippier was so out of his depth at Tottenham I started feeling sorry for him. He was shocking against the good teams and good players and always went missing when the going got tough. There were times when he delivered beautiful crosses but is too slow to beat a man or get back in defence when caught up field. He also has the incredibly annoying habit of delivering a poor pass and then having a go at the player who received it as if it was his fault. Awful signing

Brilliant sighing-current English international at a fee of £12 or £15M. Played for a top Spanish side with a great manager who is not a fool. What is not to like.

BIG MAL sadly is stirring things up with his crass anaysis of Trippier, an outstanding signing. He is imo England’s best full back and to think that Ath. Madrid excellent manager would play him in his all conquering side if he had those weaknesses is absolute madness.. He is a top class player, leadership material and I will be delighted to welcome him to our great Club.
