Surprise target NUFC were ‘hoping to keep under wraps’ has now gone public – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, sources close to Newcastle United had been hoping to keep a January move for Norwich’s Todd Cantwell ‘under wraps.’

Instead, news of our interest in the former England U21 talent has gone public, with several outlets now confirming that he is a player on Eddie Howe’s wish-list this month.

The Telegraph revealed just yesterday that we had been in contact with the Canaries about a January move for the attacking midfielder; who WILL be allowed to leave Carrow Road after refusing to sign a new deal.

Sky Sports then backed up those claims earlier today, stating that ourselves and one other unnamed Premier League club were keen.

Now, on Friday afternoon, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has revealed that Norwich will listen to offers in the region of £15m.

He states that Newcastle are keen to strike a deal at a slightly lower price, but believes Delia Smith’s side would be willing to let him leave on loan; providing it includes an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

Given the majority of outlets have backed us to target centre-backs, a left-back, a defensive midfielder and a striker this month, any move for Cantwell would come as a surprise, being one of those names to come out of nowhere after months of speculation since the Saudi-backed takeover went through.

Here’s what Luke Edwards has had to say, with his latest piece for The Telegraph also stating that our second bid for Sven Botman is ‘around’ the £40m mark:
