Basel goal-machine now on NUFC’s radar after Callum Wilson injury blow – Report

Newcastle are considering a move for Basel striker Arthur Cabral following a calf injury to Callum Wilson, according to The Mail’s Craig Hope.

Our number nine – who has bagged six goals for us this season – hobbled off in last month’s 1-1 draw against Man Utd and has since been ruled out for at least six weeks ahead of further scans this week.

The priority appears to be a move for defensive reinforcements, with Trippier signed and a new bid for Botman submitted, but our need for another striker (or two!) could increase if bad news comes back on Wilson.

Cabral has been hugely impressive for Basel this season, bagging 27 goals and 8 assists in 31 appearances for the Europa League outfit.

The 23-year-old is a physically imposing striker from Brazil, who could strike up a fearsome partnership with his rejuvenated compatriot Joelinton if he were to join our club.

Transfermarkt.com have Cabral valued at £13.5million… but you can expect Basel to demand considerably more if our mega-rich owners give them a call!

Here’s the in-form Brazilian in action for Swiss giants:
