Source close to Saudi consortium says more signings on the way after Trippier announcement

Speaking to The Telegraph, a ‘senior source’ close to the new owners of Newcastle United has insisted that “more will follow” after the signing of Kieran Trippier.

The England international has become the first arrival of the Saudi era this week, completing a £12m move from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.

However, despite it being a ‘difficult’ time to do business, with clubs quoting a ‘lot of money’ or insisting their players are ‘not for sale’ this winter, it seems the club are confident of getting deals done this month and are ‘close’ to bringing in a few other targets.

Here’s what a ‘senior source’ told Telegraph Sport this week:

“We are taking it one transfer at a time.

“The market is a difficult one for us, clubs are quoting a lot of money for the players we want and some are simply not for sale.

“But we are working through things and more will follow after Tripper.

“We are close on a few things, but this is football and you never know what is going to happen until they are actually signed.”

Moving forward, that last line seems like a promising one, suggesting we aren’t far away from completing a few other unnamed signings early in the window.

This could be key, with us set to face relegation rivals Watford in a six-pointer at St James’ Park a week on Saturday.

Kieran Trippier looks all set to make his debut next weekend, but with Callum Wilson out and new centre-backs needed, it would be a huge boost to have a few new arrivals ready to face the Hornets.

  1. Its looking good, ignore all the speculation the management seem to be doing great behind the scenes. I must admit its a nice change to see linked to all these top class players. Hwtl
