Trippier signs! – Full details, official unveiling video & first words from him & Eddie Howe

Newcastle United have announced the signing of England international Kieran Trippier!

The 31-year-old arrives from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth £12m (plus add-ons) and has signed a two and a half year deal (with an option of a further year) at St James’ Park to become the first signing of the Saudi-backed era.

Trippier has worked with Howe before during his time at Burnley, has vast Premier League experience from his days at Tottenham and was named in La Liga’s most recent team of the season after being a big part of the Diego Simeone side that were crowned champions of Spain for 2020/21.

Here’s the club’s brilliant unveiling video, showing our new recruit wearing the No 15 shirt, followed by what he and Eddie Howe told NUFC.co.uk after sealing the move…

Kieran Trippier:

“I’m delighted to be joining this fantastic club.

I really enjoyed my time in Madrid, but when I became aware of interest from Newcastle United, and having worked with Eddie Howe before, I knew this was where I wanted to be.

“I’m aware there is a lot of work ahead of us but I know the demands of Premier League well and I know what an amazing club this is with very talented players.

I can’t wait to get started and I’m excited to step out at St. James’ Park as a Newcastle player!”

Eddie Howe:

“I am really pleased to welcome Kieran to Newcastle United.

I have long admired his abilities and have followed his career, so when the opportunity arose to secure him, we didn’t hesitate.

“A lot of hard work has gone into planning for the January transfer window long before the month began, which is clear in how quickly we have been able to complete this move.

I would like to thank everyone involved, particularly our owners, and I’m very much looking forward to working with Kieran again on the training pitch.”

What a superb signing this is.

Not only does it look a real bargain, we have signed an experienced, big game player who will add quality, leadership and defensive intelligence to our side.

A real statement of intent from our new owners and hopefully the catalyst for more exciting January additions.

Welcome to Tyneside, Kieran Trippier!
