Confirmed NUFC team vs Cambridge – Trippier STARTS in strong XI, but 9 players missing

Our first game of 2022 has finally arrived! Following last month’s 1-1 draw with Man Utd, we are in FA Cup third round action today, facing League One side Cambridge United in what’s said to be a sell out.

The team news has arrived ahead of the 3pm kick off at St James’ Park, seeing us line up as follows:

STARTING 11: Dubravka – Trippier, Krafth, Schar, Ritchie (c) – Shelvey, S Longstaff – Murphy, Joelinton, Fraser – Saint-Maximin.

SUBS: Gillespie, Dummett, Manquillo, Hendrick, Willock, Anderson, White, Almiron.

So, Eddie Howe has named a strong side, with Kieran Trippier handed his debut, starting alongside the likes of Dubravka, Schar, Shelvey, Joelinton, Fraser and Saint-Maximin; who is fine despite limping off in our last outing.

It’s also great to see Paul Dummett back in the squad after EIGHT months out, with U23 talents Elliot Anderson and Joe White joining him on the bench.

Absent through injury are Callum Wilson (calf), Isaac Hayden (knee), Jamal Lewis (hamstring) and Federico Fernandez (thigh), while there’s FIVE other unspecified absentees in Ciaran Clark, Jamaal Lascelles, Karl Darlow, Freddie Woodman and Dwight Gayle.

Here’s footage of Trippier meeting fans for the first time as the players came out for their warm-ups:

HOWAY THE LADS!
