Sky Sports: Aston Villa in 'advanced talks' to sign NUFC target in deal worth £20-25m
According to Sky Sports, Aston Villa look set to beat Newcastle United to the signing of Everton's Lucas Digne.
The same outlet reported earlier this week that we'd submitted a £22.5m bid for the Frenchman in an offer that included Sean Longstaff.
However, it's since emerged that 28-year-old was not keen on a move to St James' Park, being reluctant to join a side in the middle of a relegation battle.
A few days on, a Sunday night update has arrived from Sky's Rob Dorsett, with him reporting that Aston Villa are now in 'advanced talks' to sign the left-back.
He claims that Steven Gerrard's side have beaten off competition from West Ham and Newcastle, while Chelsea have missed out after failing to follow up on initial interest.
It's though personal terms will not be a problem and he will complete a move to Villa Park in a deal worth '£20-£25m'.
As for where we go next in our hunt for a new left-back, Ajax's Nicolas Tagliafico has been linked and could emerge as our 'back-up' option in the coming days?
Digne would've been a quality signing, however I'd prefer to steer clear of players who clearly aren't keen on a move to St James' Park.
