Sky Sports: Aston Villa in ‘advanced talks’ to sign NUFC target in deal worth £20-25m

According to Sky Sports, Aston Villa look set to beat Newcastle United to the signing of Everton’s Lucas Digne.

The same outlet reported earlier this week that we’d submitted a £22.5m bid for the Frenchman in an offer that included Sean Longstaff.

However, it’s since emerged that 28-year-old was not keen on a move to St James’ Park, being reluctant to join a side in the middle of a relegation battle.

A few days on, a Sunday night update has arrived from Sky’s Rob Dorsett, with him reporting that Aston Villa are now in ‘advanced talks’ to sign the left-back.

He claims that Steven Gerrard’s side have beaten off competition from West Ham and Newcastle, while Chelsea have missed out after failing to follow up on initial interest.

It’s though personal terms will not be a problem and he will complete a move to Villa Park in a deal worth ‘£20-£25m’.

As for where we go next in our hunt for a new left-back, Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico has been linked and could emerge as our ‘back-up’ option in the coming days?

Digne would’ve been a quality signing, however I’d prefer to steer clear of players who clearly aren’t keen on a move to St James’ Park.

  1. It will take something special for Newcastle to avoid the drop this year and players don’t want a year in the championship its not going to be easy to attract top players in the situation they are in

  2. I’d be keeping a diary and nothing all the players that mugged us off. You want a player that’s going to muck in and give everything. These glory hunters that are not willing to put the hard yards in, to later reap the rewards are not worth wasting time on.
Everyone that said no this time around, can just do one when we come back up from the championship and be full of stars and quality. You didn’t want to help us back then? Then take your karma and just jog on.

  3. Totally agree with fans who say don’t want these type of players that’s why I think players like wood and cantwell would be good signings for where we are and surely there is some gems in championship we could get that would be up for the fight we’ve done it before with players like Andy Cole what a masterstroke that was by Keegan

  5. The ideal player we seek is someone who demonstrates dedication and puts in maximum effort.

We value individuals who are committed to working hard and are willing to invest their time and energy to achieve success.

Players who solely seek glory without being willing to put in the necessary groundwork are not a priority for us. We believe in the importance of perseverance and putting in the necessary work in order to reap the rewards in the long run.
