Former Sky Sports reporter Graeme Bailey has revealed that Newcastle United are showing interest in a January move for Steven Bergwijn.
In his latest piece for 90min, he claims that ourselves and Ajax are keen to sign the Dutchman on loan, with Antonio Conte expected to allow the 24-year-old to leave Spurs this month.
Interestingly, the former PSV star shares the same agent as Sven Botmam; the Lille star and fellow Holland international who appears to be one of our top centre-back targets
Bergwijn completed a £27m move to Tottenham back in January 2020, however he’s started just three Premier League games this season; and none of those have come under the new boss, Conte.
They report that the player himself is keen to leave in search of regular game time, yet some will question if a move for a winger – albeit a versatile one – should be high on our priority list when centre-backs and strikers are badly needed.
He can play down either flank or as a No 10, but has managed just six goals and 10 assists during his two years at Tottenham.
Elsewhere at Spurs, it looks like they’ll also allow Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele to leave this month, although it remains to be seen if we’ll show interest in loan deals for either.
