Newcastle are interested in signing Stade Reims striker Hugo Ekitike, according to Sky Sports News.
The highly-rated Frenchman has scored an impressive eight goals in 17 appearances in Ligue 1 this season, however any move would be a risk given the 19-year-old only made his senior debut last August.
Sky Sports also reckon that ourselves and Wolves are looking at a January deal for Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile, with the centre-back believed to be a back-up option to Sven Botman; a player Lille seem determined to keep after we await a response to our improved bid.
Interestingly, they report that Botman was targeted by Wolves over the summer, however it seems they won’t make a move for the Dutchman this month as they’re reluctant to spend big this month.
Back to Ekitike. He is showing huge promise in France and looks a real talent, but any move for the unproven teenager would surely come alongside the arrival of a more experienced striker now we’ll be without Callum Wilson for the next eight weeks.
Thankfully, Sky Sports believe we are trying to sign two strikers and two centre-backs, but we’ll have to hope one of each arrive in time for Saturday’s crucial clash with Watford.
Here’s some clips of Ekitike in action:
