Toon suffer fresh transfer blow as injuries & COVID threaten to scupper three more deals

Our attempts to sign a new centre-back appear to have been dealt another blow – just hours after The Athletic revealed that a move for Sven Botman was ‘all but over.’

We are believed to have held positive talks with Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile – our reported plan B to Botman – however it’s emerged that his proposed move to St James’ Park is now ‘unlikely’ as he suffered an injury in his side’s 0-0 draw with Monaco on Sunday.

Now to another centre-back target, Diego Carlos, and yet another issue surrounding his potential availability.

As highlighted below by Daily Express reporter Ryan Taylor, Sevilla are waiting to discover the extent of an injury sustained by Jules Kounde in a Sunday night win over Getafe, stating that the La Liga side will block any exit for Carlos if his centre-back partner is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Last but not least, reported Toon target Aaron Ramsey has now tested positive for COVID on Monday, meaning any move for him this week has been put on hold after Juventus confirmed he could find a new club last week.
