Claims from Germany: Newcastle ‘very interested’ in signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder

Newcastle United are showing particular  interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud, according to SPORT1 journalist Patrick Berger.

The 26 year old, whose contract expires in 2023, recently scored a brilliant 89th minute match winner against Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich on Saturday and is being monitored by a number of Premier League clubs; ‘especially Newcastle’, who are believed to be ‘very interested.’

Whether Newcastle could prize Dahoud away, however, is another question, as he is reportedly not keen on a January move and it is not clear whether BVB would want to part with one of their prize assets this window.

Here’s what Berger had to say in his latest transfer update for SPORT1:

A midfielder of Dahoud’s Calibre is definitely on Eddie Howe’s wish list, however, Newcastle’s disappointing defeat to Cambridge United on Saturday has not done us many favours in terms of attracting talented players.

Although transfer fee and personal terms would not present a problem, it looks like this potential transfer is just ‘one to watch’ at the moment, as Howe and his team are monitoring a host of other suitable box-to-box midfielders.
