According to Newcastle World’s Liam Kennedy, Newcastle United have been offered the chance to broker a deal for Serbian giant Nikola Milenkovic.
He reports that Fiorentina have offered the 6ft 5′ centre-back our way after it emerged yesterday that our hopes of signing Sven Botman were all but over, seeing us reluctantly turn our attention to other options after another bid was rejected by Lille.
Milenkovic has been linked with moves to West Ham and Atletico Madrid in recent weeks, being a 24-year-old Serbia international who has racked up over 150 appearances for Fiorentina after arriving from Partizan Belgrade four and a half years ago.
He is approaching the final 12 months of his current deal in Italy, so it makes you wonder whether Fiorentina have looked at his contract situation, our newfound wealth and need for a centre-back and decided this could be their chance to receive a hefty fee for Milenkovic?
Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile and Sevilla’s Diego Carlos appear to be two other centre-back targets. Both are mentioned in the piece by Newcastle World, however there’s fears that an injury suffered by the former on Sunday could see any potential move to St James’ Park be scrapped.
I’m afraid it’s all starting to look too late for the Watford game. With players having to be registered by THURSDAY it would already appear too late to get a foreign deal concluded, medical completed and paperwork done in time. We might just about get a domestic based ayer or two through the door but it’s already looking like panic stations. Nothing done by tonight and we’re probably left with the squad who failed to trouble Cambridge for what is an absolute 6 pointer. Prayer mats out ???
