Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has issued an update on Chris Wood’s proposed move to Newcastle United in the last few moments.
The North-East reporter has revealed that he arrived on Tyneside last night, stayed in a nearby hotel and is at the club’s Benton training base as we speak undergoing the first past of his medical.
He claims that the club are hoping to confirm his signing later today, as Eddie Howe is keen to have him train with the group on Thursday and Friday ahead of Saturday’s crucial clash with Watford at St James’ Park.
Downie also reports that Burnley boss Sean Dyche is ‘angry’ that the player left for a relegation rival midway through the season, with the Clarets also shocked that we agreed to pay his release clause; which is believed to be £25m, not the £20m fee initially reported last night.
Here’s what the Sky Sports reporter has had to say when speaking live from the club’s training ground this afternoon:
It’s also been reported elsewhere that the 30-year-old will sign a two and a half year deal at the club, keeping him on Tyneside until 2024.
Wood is moving from one club to another which is in exactly the same situation.
What is his arrival speech going to be like?
I did it because, errr, because , errrr, errrr let me think, MONEYYYYYYYYY!
It’ll probably be about the fans and the fantastic stadium, and the history of the club.
Personally I don’t care as long as he contributes to keeping us up.
Can’t wait to hear what the anti mercenary crowd are saying.
