Club release footage of Chris Wood’s first day at NUFC as £25m man trains with Toon teammates

Newcastle United have released a behind the scenes video of Chris Wood’s first day as a Newcastle United player, showing him arriving on Tyneside, completing his medical, posing for pictures and training with his new teammates for the first time.

The New Zealand captain completed a £25m move earlier today, with the club announcing that he’d signed a two-and-a-half year deal on Tyneside.

Since then, he’s revealed in his first press conference that it was time to step ‘out of his comfort zone’ at Burnley and join this ambitious project at Newcastle United, stating that he jumped at the chance to come when he received the call on Tuesday night.

Wood will wear the No 20 shirt and is expected to make his debut in Saturday’s crucial clash with Watford; a relegation six-pointer and must-win game at St James’ Park.

Here’s the brilliant video released by NUFC’s media team today, showing Wood’s first day as a Newcastle United player as he trains alongside fellow new boy and former Burnley teammate, Kieran Trippier:

Here’s what Chris Wood and Eddie Howe had to say following confirmation of the striker’s £25m move earlier today:

Chris Wood:

“This is a very exciting opportunity for me and I’m delighted to be a Newcastle United player.

“I have played at St. James’ Park a few times and it’s an amazing place, so to have the chance to represent this club with those incredible supporters behind me and my team-mates is very special.

“The club and manager have been first class during this process, and I really can’t wait to get onto the pitch and repay the faith they have in me, especially with a vital part of the season ahead of us.”

Eddie Howe:

“Chris is an important signing for us at a crucial time and I’m very pleased we have been able to move quickly and bring him here.

“He is a very dangerous attacking threat, has a physicality and character that I really like, and he has vast experience in the Premier League.

He will be a great fit for us.”
