Burnley now eyeing shock move for ex-NUFC striker to replace Chris Wood – Report

Burnley are weighing up a surprise move for ex-Newcastle striker Andy Carroll, according to The Mail’s Craig Hope.

The Clarets are in the market for a centre forward after we swooped in to poach their main man, Chris Wood, by activating his £25million release clause.

Our former number nine is currently at Reading – who are desperate to keep the Gateshead native – but his one-month deal at the Madjeski expires this weekend.

Carroll has looked sharp since his return to action, playing the full 90 minutes in each of their last league games, and had two wonder goals ruled out for offside in Reading’s crushing 7-0 home defeat to Fulham on Wednesday.

Sean Dyche would be taking a huge gamble by pinning Burnley’s survival hopes on a man as injury prone as Carroll. His team setup would, however, be tailor-made for the target man but it remains to be seen whether he can still cut it at Premier League level.

Would Carroll’s loyalties be torn at Burnley as he looks to avoid the drop at his boyhood club’s expense… or would he be eager to impress and show his former employer exactly what they missed out on?
