According to Sky Italia, Newcastle United are set to make a move for Atlanta’s attacking wing-back Robin Gosens.
They claim that the German international – who played at last summer’s European Championships – has agreed personal terms with the club and is eager to sign at St James’ Park this month.
The 27-year-old can play in a number of positions, being able to operate as a left wing-back or left midfielders.
He bagged an impressive 12 goals and eight assists last season, but has missed a large chunk of this season through injury, with a hamstring issue meaning he’s not featured since October for the Serie A side.
With Lucas Digne ending up at Aston Villa after we tried and failed to bring the Frenchman to Tyneside, is Gosens the latest attacking wing-back we are now trying to sign this month?
Any move for him would also suggest a move to a three or five-man defence, with the attacking wing-back come left midfielder tending to play in the sort of role occupied by the likes of Marcos Alonso at Chelsea.
This update from Sky Italy comes just a few hours after TuttoMercatoWEB claimed we’d offered the German a contract worth over double his current salary at Atlanta.
