Newcastle launch £25m bid for Colombian powerhouse as club work on several big deals – Report

According to the Daily Record, Newcastle United have launched a bid in excess of £25m for Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata.

This comes from Duncan Castles, who reports that the Colombian international is ‘open’ to a January move to St James’ Park if the two clubs can agree a fee.

He also claims that the Serie A side would be willing to sell the 30-year-old striker – who has scored 12 goals this season – but value him closer to the £37m mark.

Interestingly the same piece states that this is one of several big money deals that our new owners are working on, with it said that Zapata is an alternative to Benfica’s Darwin Nunez; the highly-rated Uruguayan whose bagged 19 goals already this term.

It’s said the 22-year-old is the preferred target, however it seems the Portuguese giants are currently holding out for a whopping £50m following talks with Toon chiefs.

Diego Carlos is also named as our top centre-back in the piece, with us stepping up talks over a deal for the Brazilian after we tried and failed to sign Sven Botman from Lille.

  1. We don’t want a 30 year old striker ffs,
We need a Tiote type of midfielder who can boss the park, and two CB’s who don’t fall asleep during the match.
Make Trippier Captain as Lascelles is worse than useless, it says something when I think Krafth would do a better job hope Fernandez is back soon, and Shelvey just goes missing, bring on Hendrick “never thought I would say that”or young Anderson we have nothing to lose

  2. He could just be the type we need now, hungry players is what is required not the Prima Donna’s who don’t want to spoil their cv ?. Wood and Trippier who are hungry for the club and once we get someone to feed Wood we will do well, look at our England No 9 he has only scored 4 PL goals this season, lack of service. Hwtl

  3. The names most recently linked with us are exciting but need to be converted into deals urgently. We can’t go to Leeds on Saturday with the current options… As has been suggested already, make Trippier captain, clear out the strollers and put the emphasis on ability and character. No relegation release clauses for new signings, we want players who are buying into the club, the project, the dreams of the best fans in the world.
