Newcastle set to make ‘new move’ for another key player at relegation rivals – Alan Nixon

Just a few days after the Saudi-backed takeover officially went through at St James’ Park, The Telegraph reported that we were hoping to make Burnley’s James Tarkowski the first signing of a new era at Newcastle United.

Now, a few months on, The Sun’s Alan Nixon has issued a Monday morning update on our pursuit of the centre-back.

He claims that we are going to make a ‘new move’ for Tarkowski, stating that it will take a ‘lot of money’ to get the deal done – despite the fact he is out of contract at the end of the season.

Nixon also states that Howe wants TWO centre-backs in this month, with us also believing to be pushing to sign Sevilla’s Diego Carlos.

Here’s what he’s had to say in his latest transfer update for Toon fans on Twitter:

Tarkowski may be out of contract this summer, but all reports leading up to now have insisted that Burnley would rather lose him on a free at the end of the season than sell such a key player to direct relegation rivals in January.

With them already reeling from Chris Wood’s surprise move to St James’ Park, is this really a deal we can get done?

  1. Honestly I don’t think Eddie Howe is up to the job at Newcastle. In buying Wood for 25 million who in their right mind would pay that.Should have got a foreign coach who could attract good players. In Howe Steve Bruce comes to mind No Upgrade litterly the same.

  2. Wood who is an experienced Prem player cost £25M not because that is how much he is worth per sae but rather how much his release clause is. It doesn’t equate to Howe’s judgement but rather about how on earth can we attract players considering where we are. Ashley & Bruce have caused this problem of a paper thin squad( 4 keepers in a 25 man squad really). What foreign coach would come who can hit the ground running in the 14 days or so left in the xfer market. Howe has the players training every day unlike Bruce. Howe has improved JoLinton-the rest as some-one said “you cannot shine a t*rd”, Boy do we have some t*rds at this club.
