Source close to Saudi consortium says NUFC working on two deals – “We are getting closer”

It sounds like Newcastle United are edging closer to two more signings ahead of Saturday’s trip to Leeds.

Speaking to The Telegraph, a ‘senior source’ close to the club’s new owners claims that the club are ‘working really hard on two deals’ right now, stating that we are ‘getting closer’ to another breakthrough.

That said, they warn that our perilous position in the Premier League is making it even tougher to persuade players to make the move to St James’ Park, meaning an already difficult window has been made harder again.

Here’s what they told The Telegraph when asked for a transfer update:

“We are working really hard on two deals at the moment and we are getting closer.

“But our league position is making things harder to persuade players to come.

“It makes a tough window even trickier to do business in.”

The same piece states that we are hopeful of bringing in Brazilian centre-back Diego Carlos over the coming week, with the player keen to sign and the two clubs still in talks over a fee for the 28-year-old.

Liverpool’s Nat Phillips and Tottenham’s Joe Rodon are also named as players of interest, as Howe looks to bring in a couple of new defenders to bolster a leaky back line that crumbed once again in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Watford.
