Fabrizio Romano confirms NUFC’s interest in another striker & 6ft 5′ forward also linked

Yesterday, L’Equipe claimed that Newcastle United were ‘sounding out’ a move for Borussia Monchengladbach striker Alassane Plea.

They also claimed that we’d spoken to Allan Saint-Maximin – a teammate of Plea’s during their time together at Nice – for more information on the Frenchman.

Now, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the 28-year-old is someone we’re interested in, stating he is an ‘option’ for the club if a move for Atalanta’s Duvan Zapata fails to materialise.

Here’s what he tweeted earlier today, claiming Zenit St. Petersburg are also in talks with the Plea; a player we bid £20m for back in 2018:

Elsewhere, giant Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca is the latest player who has been linked with a January move to St James’ Park today.

According to FC Inter News, Newcastle United have ‘asked for information’ on the 6ft 5′ forward who has been in impressive form in Serie A this season and could compete with Inter Milan for his signature.

Scamacca has nine goals in 21 appearances this season and recently received his first call up for Italy, featuring in two of their World Cup qualifiers at the back end of last year.

The report states that Inter Milan are refusing to pay more than €25m for the 23-year-old, with Sassuolo’s asking price said to be set at €40m.
