Sky Sports: Jesse Lingard ‘good friends’ with NUFC star & ‘impressed’ after fresh approach

It looks like Jesse Lingard just might be tempted by a January move to Tyneside.

Following on from claims we’ve made a loan move for the Manchester United attacker this morning (via MEN), Sky Sports have now released an update on our attempts to sign the 29-year-old following a fresh approach.

They report that Lingard is interested in holding talks with Newcastle and could be open to the idea of signing on a permanent deal, with him ‘good friends’ with Kieran Trippier; a fellow Mancunian who he knows well from the England set up.

Sky Sports also report that he is ‘impressed’ that our new owners have been able to attract a player of Trippier’s calibre to the club.

With Lingard set to become a free agent this summer after failing to agree a new deal at Old Trafford, it seems he’d expect a hefty wage packet at Newcastle United should this be a permanent move.

It’s also worth noting that this could be a deal that suits Man Utd, with them clearly reluctant to sell to West Ham or Spurs – two rival clubs who are competing for a top four finish alongside the Red Devils.

Hopefully Trippier can get on the phone to his England teammate and convince him to sign, as this really would be a superb signing at just the right time.

With must-win games coming thick and fast and new recruits needed, the arrival of a proven Premier League player who made a huge impact at West Ham last season could be exactly what the doctored ordered for Eddie Howe.

Let’s hope we can get this one done ASAP.
