Some big news has emerged from The Athletic in the last few moments, with them reporting that a London club has submitted a ‘major offer’ for Sevilla’s Diego Carlos.
David Ornstein reveals in his latest exclusive that this bid has NOT come from Arsenal, meaning it appears as though one of Chelsea, Tottenham or West Ham have hijacked our bid to bring the Brazilian to St James’ Park.
He writes that we are still ‘pushing’ to bring the 28-year-old to Tyneside, but states this fresh approach from an unnamed London club could yet scupper our attempts to sign the centre-back.
Saying that, I still have my doubts on this one. Is another club REALLY keen, or is this a tactic from Sevilla and agents in one final attempt to extract the biggest fee possible out of our Saudi-backed owners?
Who knows, Chelsea may have agreed to bump up the price by making a ‘rival bid’ so that they can sign Joules Kounde – a Sevilla defender and long-term targets of theirs – for slightly cheaper this summer?
Either way, it’s frustrating to see how this drawn out Diego Carlos saga has dragged on, with it seeming almost certain that he won’t be signed in time for Saturday’s trip to Leeds.
Just another day in the life of a Newcastle supporter, dragging on and on, either pay up or walk away!!!

Don’t believe a word of it – why not name the club that’s made the bid if true – they’ve named us ??♂️.
Full of **** trying to drive the price up. Table the offer and be ready to walk – keep looking at other options.

Watched him last night and really not all that.
Won’t be disappointed if he doesn’t sign.
