Newcastle United are hoping Kieran Trippier can now play a key role in bringing Jesse Lingard to St James’ Park this month, according to the Northern Echo.
They report that the right-back is a close friend of Lingard’s, with the pair both born in Greater Manchester and England teammates who played in the same side that reached the semi finals of the World Cup in 2018.
It’s believed that they have remained in touch over the years, meaning Trippier may be able to sell the Man Utd midfielder a January move to Tyneside.
This comes after Sky Sports revealed just yesterday that Lingard was ‘impressed’ by our ability to attract Trippier from Altetico Madrid, stating he was keen to see what our new owners had to say following a fresh approach.
With him playing just 89 minutes of Premier League football all season and currently out of Gareth Southgate’s plans ahead of November’s World Cup in Qatar, a January move to Tyneside could be a no-brainer for all parties.
The player gets the minutes he’s been denied all season, he’s reunited with an England teammate set to be watched by Southgate, Man Utd receive a fee (whether it be a loan or transfer) before he leaves on a free at the end of the season and we sign someone who has the ability to fire us to safety; if his prolific spell at West Ham is anything to go by!
Over to you, agent Trippier!
